July 2: Though not much launches happen at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai, the event is quiet a huge one when it comes to the Chinese and Southeast Asian market. Major Chinese brands get to play an important role here.
The Global Device Summit panel discussion held as part of the MWC Shanghai 2018, had Pete Lau, CEO at OnePlus, as one of the guest speakers. At the discussion, he has reportedly disclosed various topics including the developments which can be expected in the coming years.
One of the questions raised was about 5G, as to when consumers will be able to use OnePlus phones featuring 5G. Stating that the 5G will be revolutionary, the OnePlus cofounder stated that the effect of 5G will be felt only in 3-4 years. Pete Lau, assured that the company will roll out 5G phones next year as many telecom operators are gearing up to provide 5G services.
And there’s still some confusion about whether we will have devices in time for the much-hyped early 2019 release target for 5G
5G is all set to make its entry, but when considering the early days of 4G, some smartphones where provided with 4G but some were not. It is still unclear whether the market will have 5G smartphones.
Qualcomm have made huge investments in the telecom industry but had not mentioned anything about 5G. With Pete Lau’s statement on 5G phones, Qualcomm have also assured the launch of 5G devices next year.
Thus it sums up that the OnePlus 6T which is to be launched this year won’t have 5G connectivity support.
