May 18: Tech behemoth Microsoft is likely to announce its new Surface tablets priced $400 later this year. There were rumors doing the rounds that the company was working on a low- end Surface device. As per the reports, the expected Intel Core device with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage will be priced at $ 399.

The recently launched Surface Pro sports an Intel Core m3, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD, and is sold at $799. There are various rumours going on about the size of the screen for the device, which according to most of them, is about 10 inches.

Another rumor is that Microsoft will announce one low end surface device by July 2018. The tech world is still unaware whether the company will launch the new gadget as Surface Pro device as a new Surface brand.

When it comes to the upcoming products the question that ever one has is why Microsoft is taking such a huge step after the device’s failure. The only conclusion one can make is that company is striving to take over their rival Apple with products like Surface Studio and Surface Book.

In the educational market Microsoft OEMs had launched various low-end, low- cost PCs which posed a great competition to Chromebooks and iPads. Recently Microsoft was seen developing Windows’ education share at Apple’s expense. Chromebooks remain the prominent in the US market.

With Microsoft 365 F1 subscription bundle which comes with Windows 10, Office 365 and Enterprise Mobility + Security as the software/service piece of its strategy, the company aims to expand itself in the customer service / customer facing segment.
