March 3: NTPC Ltd, the country’s largest power producer, is all set to put on stream its new 250 Mw Bongaigaon thermal power project (TPP) in Kokrajhar in Assam. The commissioning of the plant is expected to happen during the first quarter of the coming fiscal.

The Bongaigaon plant, according to a BS report, would be the first NTPC project of 750 Mw capacity (3×250 Mw) in the north-eastern region. Of the total capacity, 500 MW (2×250 Mw) is already generating power, it added.

According to the report quoting an NTPC top official, the commissioning of one unit of 250 Mw is all set to begin, and the unit will be synchronised by May-June this year. Power from the unit will be supplied to the north-eastern states.

Once the last unit is also commissioned, the power plant will achieve full capacity of 750 Mw.  The Bongaigaon project comes under the Eastern Region-II, which looks after the stations and projects in Odisha and northeastern part of the country.
