March 5: Mass transporter Indian Railways will look to connect all major cities in the country with an ambitious plan that would bring forth high speed train corridors across the length and breadth of the Indian terrain. The plan is expected to cost the Railways as much as Rs 10 lakh crore.
An ET report has said that the Rs 10 lakh-crore high-speed train corridor construction plan is expected to be announced soon, and that the project would cover close to 10,000 km. The plan announcement would come about in April this year, it has been reported.
When the announcement comes up, it is expected that all the routes that would be connected along with the funding mechanism would be revealed. In a bid to cut down the construction cost by half, the government is also likely to build double lines on single pillars.
The report also said that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor, popularly called the Bullet train project, was also started last week. In this regard, the Maharashtra government has handed over land papers for the Bullet train to the Indian Railways.
