June 5: Wipro, one of the country’s leading software services exporter, has offered single-digit salary hikes to its offshore and onsite employees. While the former has been offered high single-digit salary hikes, the latter will be receiving low single-digit increment for the year beginning June.
Eligible employees working in the aforesaid areas have been offered an average of 6-7% salary hike according to the report from the ET. The move follows an earlier move from IT giants TCS and Infosys, both who offered similar salary hikes to their employees earlier this year. Global majors like Capgemini too had adopted a similar policy with their increments offering.
Wipro has also revealed that that top performers would be getting substantially higher increments. Additionally, employees working on future-oriented niche technologies have also been rewarded with similar higher increases.
As for employees not eligible for increment, the IT major has asked them to buckle up. Wipro had already said that some of its employees might not receive increments this year. Wipro hasn’t specified the number of employees that were not offered the hike.
The company had earlier revealed that digital engagements and employee desire to hone their skills would be prioritized over the routine legacy work. Wipro isn’t alone in the aspect either, as major Indian IT firms have revealed their desire to up-skill their employees to help them stay relevant.
Infosys, the country’s second largest IT major, had earlier revealed its four pillar strategy that focused on re-skilling of its employees along with other aspects. Reading together, it definitely underlines the emerging trend among the IT services sector to offer bigger benefits for those employees with new technology skills.
