June 16: Suzuki will soon be taking the wraps off the 4th generation of its off-roader, Jimny along with the Jimny Sierra version. We are now having more detailed look at the appearance of the latter after a set of images have started circulating among the internet world.
If the images are anything to go by, the Jimny Sierra will be a more muscular version of the regular Jimny variant. To beef up the muscular looks, the Jimny Sierra will be sporting wider bumpers, broader tyres that are shod on a new-design alloy wheel, and fatter cladding around the wheel arches.
Further details about the engine specification of Jimmy Sierra aren’t yet available. According to reports, the sub-4 metre 2018 Jimny will feature a 660cc 3 cylinder petrol engine that would come turbocharged. This will be coupled with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox depending upon the variant.
The Jimny will also be rolling out in a longer wheelbase option in the future, and it would feature seating for 5 adults and a larger boot compared to the 4-seater 3-door compact Jimny. The longer wheelbase option will have a 1.2 litre-4 cylinder K-Series, with Suzuki also being said to roll out a g a 1.0 litre-3 cylinder BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine variant.
As with the 2018 Jimny, the compact off-roader will feature factory hardtop and will be using a ladder frame chassis that would provide better handling on rough roads and trails. The production of the compact SUV has already commenced in Japan, although there is no word on whether it would make it to the Indian market. Suzuki will be eyeing to roll out the long wheelbase variant in India, and is said to have been pushing for production of a right-hand variant of Jimny in India.
