Aug 3: Maruti is likely to introduce a sporty version of its Nexa outing, Ignis. No words have been yet out regarding a sporty upgrade from sources within the country. The latest info comes from insiders who have got access to Suzuki’s preparation works for the upcoming GIIAS auto show, which will be held in Indonesia from 2nd August to 12th.
Details are yet scarce, and the only stuff we have is a slightly uncovered image of the new Ignis that partly reveals the front hoods and bumpers. The red lining across the bumpers and sides does confirm the sporty outing of Ignis, and if that’s not enough, the picture itself reveals the Sport branding.
Maruti usually badges the name of the particular model along the front number plate slot. The current leak reveals ‘Suzuki Sport Concept’ imprinted along the number plate, though the name of the vehicle is missing. But indeed, it’s quite obvious from the image that the vehicle wrapped under covers is the Ignis.
More details can be obtained soon with the Expo going live today. What’s interesting is that the version could also be featured in the Indian market soon. The Ignis being sold at Indonesia comes from the manufacturing unit located in India, and so there’s a big chance that the company would want it rolled out in India.
Besides, the move could also prove useful for Maruti Suzuki in lifting the sales of Ignis. Currently, Maruti Ignis sells about 4500 units. The numbers are strong and are enough to keep it within the list of 20 top selling cars in India by volume. However, Maruti might want to add a bit more and make it on par with its siblings like Baleno, Swift and Dzire, which sell over 17,000 units.
