Nov 14: Royal Enfield is set to launch its twins – Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 – before the unveiling of Rider Mania. The launch will take place on November 14, 2018, while the Rider Mania is to begin sales on November 16, 2018.
The latest news is that the Interceptor 650 is expected to come with an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.5 lakh in Delhi. For a token amount of Rs 5000, the unofficial bookings have already begun. Deliveries of the vehicle will begin by the end of this month.
Moving ahead of Kawasaki’s Ninja 300, Royal Enfield’s Interceptor 650 is expected to become the most affordable twin-cylinder big bike. When it comes to a larger, more sophisticated twin-cylinder powertrain and better underpinnings, the upcoming Interceptor 650 could be perfect for the price at which it is offered.
As for the Continental GT 650, it is being marketed at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.7 lakh in Delhi. Even though both of the vehicles come with the same powertrain and underpinnings, the Continental GT 650 houses a sleeker fuel tank, rear-set footpegs and clip-on handlebars for more aggressive ergonomics.
Both the bikes are powered by a 648cc air- and oil-cooled parallel-twin engine. Along with the 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch, the vehicle generates around 47.6PS at 7250rpm and 53Nm at 5250rpm. A specially developed Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres wrap around the 18-inch spoke wheels. The front and back disc brake set up with dual-channel ABS remains standard in both the vehicles.
The Interceptor 650 which will be available in six different color variants, in the Indian market, will rival the Kawasaki Z650 and the Harley-Davidson Street 750. Depending on the premium finish the prices for the color variants will also vary.
