April 16: Chinese mobile phone manufacturer OnePlus has confirmed that its flagship OnePlus 6 device will be exclusive to Amazon. The confirmation was given out by the company through a new video teaser that was aired at movie theaters.
OnePlus had already started teasing its upcoming launch through a series of tweets, disclosing a number of specifications and features of its upcoming smartphone. The company decided to up the anticipation by broadening the reach of the tease by airing an extended version of the OnePlus 6 video that was earlier revealed under ‘The Speed You Need’ theme.
The revelation should hardly be of surprise to anyone, as OnePlus had been loyal to Amazon ever since the launch of its first flagship device in India. Ever since the launch of OnePlus One, the company has always associated with Amazon for the exclusive sale of its smartphones.
An exception was when Flipkart sold the OnePlus 3 device through its Big Billion Day Sale. OnePlus, however, clarified that it had no association with any other e-retailers other than Amazon in the country.
Apart from Amazon, OnePlus will also have the device sold through its own e-portal. OnePlus has recently launched its Experience store in Bengaluru. But we don’t see a possibility for the offline sale of OnePlus 6 as OnePlus has clarified that it will continue its online-only strategy in the Indian market for its flagship devices.
At the same time, the OnePlus Experience store will continue to offer accessories and merchandise support to its customers. OnePlus has recently said that it would expand its offline presence by opening up more Experiece stores in other major cities across the country by the end of this year.
OnePlus 6, which will be launched by June this year, will sport a 19:9 display with notch similar to that of iPhone. The device will pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and will be available in two RAM variants – 6GB and 8GB – in addition to support for varying storages of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
OnePlus will be available in Blue, White and Black shades, while a special edition Avenger: Infinity War Edition will also be made available post launch. Pricing is expected to be kept higher than that of the predecessor, with the high-end variant expected to be priced close to Rs 50,000.
