Sep 7: Olectra Greentech, formerly Goldstone Infratech, will be supplying the new eBuzz K9 electric buses from BYD to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). The new buses were flagged off by Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Ajay Mishra and Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Arvind Kumar.
Five eBuzz K9 model buses were handed over to TSRTC by Olectra Greentech. The electric buses currently ply from various locations in the city to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad.
Additional buses will be joining the fleet of TSRTC in the coming days. Olectra Greentech has been awarded the contract to hand over a total of 40 AC electric buses under Gross Cost Contract basis, of which the first lot included five such buses. TSRTC is provided a subsidy of Rs1 crore for purchase of each electric bus under the FAME scheme by the Department of Heavy Industries.
The eBuzz K9 is the product of Chinese firm BYD Auto Industry Ltd, the leading name among manufacturers of electric vehicles in the world. The buses are being manufactured in India by Olectra Greentech in a strategic tie-up with BYD.
As for the details of the new bus, the eBuzz K9 comes with a capacity of 39+1 (driver) seats, and is designed to be fully air conditioned low floor buses. The ebus is powered by a lithiul-ion battery that can keep the ebus running for up to 250 kms in a single charge.
The vehicle also features regenerative braking system that helps the battery to get recharged through energy lost while braking. The total time taken for completely charging the battery is around 4-5 hours. The eBuzz K9 also features electronically controlled air suspension to improve the comfort levels of passengers during journeys.
