March 13: Nokia, as everyone knows, had once upon a time ruled the mobile phone terrain for long. Though there were competitors of the likes of Siemens and Ericsson in the market, everyone had been Nokia fans.
Things changed later, Nokia was nowhere to be found in the list of mainstream phones. In less than a decade, companies including Apple, Blackberry and Samsung invaded the phone market. The new phones which put novel technology to use took over.
Nokia phones lost out to Samsung in the year 2012. Most of the users who were fond of the brand also moved on to newer terrain. The Nokia revival now seems to be round the bend, with the company all set to make a comeback on a familiar Android platform.
Going by reports, the company’s flagship model is all that a cell phone maker needs for a comeback. The upcoming device Nokia 8 may not be a great rival to Apple or Samsung, but it would come with features that can help it compete in the mid- phone segment market.
The phone would come in the form of a typical aluminum slab with curved edges, and sports dual cameras at the rear. The traditionally designed home buttons which comes with capacitive app switching and return button adorn the handset. Though with a little textual difference, the volume and power buttons are conventionally placed.
The 5.3 inch quad-HD LCD screen gives an excellent display even if it was web content or for games. Cameras on Nokia phones generally have a lot of positive reviews and so does this one. Zeiss is the brand which worked on the dual camera of the phone at the rear. With the monochrome sensor, which even in low light is capable to produce excellent details, helps the 13 megapixel camera to give better results. One of the positive sides of the handset is that it runs on Android and not on Microsoft. Other attractive features of the phone are the QHD display and the dual camera that enables ‘bothie’.
Even though the phone boasts many brilliant features, there are some limitations too. One would feel that the phone could have been wider than its 5.5 inch display. As the phone is quite long, it will be difficult use especially while typing. The dual camera which is well equipped with monochrome sensor can be made better with several features including HDR and low light pictures. The use Android OS is expected to help the company to gain back its brand position.
