Sep 13: Ahead of the much anticipated launch of the XUV 700, Mahindra is setting up the path for a smooth entry of the model. As a result, the G4 Rexton is getting ready to be cleared out of the market, forcing the company to offer mammoth discounts on the SsangYong branded SUV in India.
Mahindra is offering discounts of up to Rs 9.50 lakh for all the existing stocks of Rexton in the showroom. The on-road price of the vehicle including insurance, registration and road tax now amounts to around Rs 20 lakh. To recall, the Rexton was tagged with an ex-showroom pricing of Rs 25.99 lakh.
The discount also makes the SUV much cheaper than many of the rivals in the category including Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Mahindra’s own XUV500. The discount is being introduced to clear the stocks of Rexton before XUV700, which is also based on the Rexton, hits the market on October 9.
The Rexton features a 2.7-litre diesel engine in two variants; the RX270 XDi that delivers 164 PS power and 340 Nm torque, and the RX270 XVT that delivers 186 PS power and 402 Nm torque. The XDi version comes mated with a five-speed manual gearbox and read-wheel drive feature, while the other variant features a five speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive
Additional features in the premium SUV include cruise control, eight-way adjustable powered driver seat, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, etc. The vehicle also comes well equipped with safety equipment like Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-slip Regulation, Active Rollover Protection, and Hill Descent Control.
The features are to be carried forward to the XUV700, which will be pitted against the likes of Toyota’s Fortuner. The new SUV will be launched on October 9, replacing the Rexton SUV that entered the Indian markets six years ago.
