April 11: It didn’t take much time for Bolero to be one of the landmark models for Mahindra. Now, nearly after two decades since its launch, the SUV continues its good ride in the market. The leading SUV from Mahindra has now set the milestone of 10 lakh overall sales in the country.
In addition to the 10 lakh milestone, Bolero has also fortified its position in the market by regaining the third spot among SUV in India. Bolero also climbed up the ladder in the list of top passenger vehicles in India, regaining its entry into the top 10 spot. This was after registering a 23% year-on-year growth in the market. Bolero had been the leader among SUV for a decade, starting from 2005-06.
Reports quoting Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, said that the growth is a validation of the confidence reposed on the brand by consumers in semi-urban and rural India. He also expressed hope that the brand will continue its ride of popularity in the coming years.
The successful launch of the Bolero Power+ has helped the brand to grow steadily, in spite of several new launches in the UV space. I am sure that the Bolero will continue to be as popular on Indian roads in the years to come, he has been quoted as saying.
Mahindra introduced the Bolero in 2000 to break away in an attempt to shed behind its bare-bones Jeep image. There has been no looking back for the company since then. The rugged build and durability of the SUV helped it become the favorite across nation. It went on to become the country’s top selling SUV, a feat which it retained for ten consecutive years. Bolero is also Mahindra’s best selling SUV since the year 2005-06.
The Mahindra Bolero is offered with two diesel engine options, a 1.5-litre engine producing 70bhp and 195Nm of torque and a 2.5-litre unit churning out 63bhp and 190Nm of torque. Bolero will also be receiving addition safety features including ABS and airbags to comply with the new Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSA).
