July 3: After falling in data speeds for two consecutive months, Jio is having its data speed improved to around 30% in the month of May 2018. The telecom operator, which shook the telecom industry with its data plans, was criticized for lowered data speeds during the months of March and April this year.
As per the data shared by MySpeed app from TRAI, Jio’s download speed stood at an average of 19Mbps, up from 14.7 Mbps in April. However, the download speeds haven’t yet reached to the previous levels. Jio’s download speed on average stood at 21.3 Mbps for the month of February, following which it declined for the two succeeding months.
Jio still was the topper in terms of data speed for the month of May 2018 as per MySpeed data, and offered double the speed of what the nearest rival offered. Airtel, the country’s largest network, offered download speeds at 9.3 Mbps, up from 9.2 Mbps it offered during the previous month.
Vodafone and Idea followed the list with respective download speeds of 6.8Mbps and 6.5Mbps. The operators witnessed a dip in data speed with both of them achieving data speeds of over 7Mbps during the previous month.
However, Idea came top in terms of upload speed with a figure of 6.3Mbps. Vodafone came at second with an upload speed of 5.2 Mbps, while Jio stood at third with an upload speed of 4.8Mbps. Airtel scored the lowest among the major players with an upload speed of 3.8Mbps. The upload speed for Airtel however saw a marginal rise from 3.7Mbps the previous month, while that of Jio’s increased by around 20%.
Independent Drive Tests however put Airtel atop the list on the basis of download speeds during last week. For the Delhi-NCR region, Airtel offered download speeds of 8.9Mbps, while Jio offered only 7.3Mbpps. With upload speeds, Vodafone topped the list with 4.9Mbps upload speed and it was followed by Jio and Airtel respectively with upload speeds of 2.1Mbps and 2Mbps.
