March 6: Fiat Chrysler Automobile India’s made in India Jeep Compass has become the country’s most awarded vehicle for 2017. The car, manufactured in FCA’s joint venture facility at Ranjangaon near Pune, not only received 26 automobile and technology awards from various print, broadcast and online media, but also bagged the title of India’s Most Awarded SUV for 2017.
Apart from the seven ‘Car of the Year’ awards, it also received 19 awards, of which 15 are for the ‘SUV of the Year’. The Jeep Compass was evaluated by industry experts in the testing sessions held prior to the final announcement of the awards.
Last month, the vehicle built with 65 percent local parts, crossed the 25,000 unit production milestone. In October 2017, the company began exporting the vehicle to other right-hand drive markets. The company has successfully shipped around 5000 units to key markets including Australia, Japan and the UK.
Reports quoting Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India, said the company is proud to have won so many prestigious awards for the new Jeep Compass within just seven months of its launch. The first vehicle rolled off the production line in Rajangaon on June 1, 2017. Jeep Compass was launched in the Indian market on July 31, 2017.
The SUV which is available in three various trims, such as Sport, Longitude and Limited, is offered in 10 variants with 2.0 litre Turbo Diesel and 1.4 Turbo Petrol Multiair powertrain options, with 4×4 and 4×2 derivatives available in the lineup.
