Jan 3: The All India Online Vendors Association (AIOVA), the online sellers’ representative body on December 31 accused Ekart, Flipkart’s delivery unit, of firing around 300 seasonal workers. Meanwhile, Flipkart-owned Ekart denied this stating that those let go were employed via local third-party vendors for a small period of time, especially during festive season.
The All India Online Vendors Association tweeted that the recruitment practices of Ekart is under scrutiny as 300 seasonal workers from Kheda were fired. It stated that lots of the sellers blacked out. It also mentioned that MK Gandhi began first Satyagraha from Kheda before 100 years.
Talking about the issue Flipkart said that they are still working with various third-party vendors which provide temporary employees during the festive season.
Flipkart said they offer pre-agreed-upon severance packages when they have to cut down the employee strength. They stated that the same happened in the recent case.
In the statement, the company also stated that in order to make sure that the constitutional or other responsibilities of the vendors are fulfilled; the company maintains a close rapport with the third party vendors.
In order to boost the growth in Gujarat, Flipkart will continue to be the partner of the state.
In a statement, the company said that they will continue deep infrastructure investments such as warehouses and fulfillment centers. They also expressed how proud they are to open job opportunities thereby backing to the local economy.
