June 7: Daimler Buses India has unveiled its new flagship automatic coach in India, the Mercedes-Benz 2441 SHD. The 2441 SHD, which is the successor to the 2436, is also the longest luxury coach offered in the segment by any company.
With a length of 15 metres, the 2441 SHD also shows no compromise in power as it comes with an upgraded engine over the predecessor. The OM457 LA engine is capable of producing 402 bhp output power, while the predecessor had an output just above 350 bhp.
The new luxury automatic coach comes with a seating capacity of 59 passengers, and also offers luggage space of 14 cubic meters. Daimler has also made care to make the exteriors light, yet durable with extensive use of aluminium in its body. The coach also has additional features like active steerable tag axle for lower turning radius, advanced braking systems, and strategically positioned fuel tank for added safety.
The launch of the new flagship also comes on the background of the company grabbing big achievement in sales despite the overall dullness in the bus market. Strengthening its presence in the market, Dailmer has managed to almost double the sales of its bus units for the year 2017 over the previous year.
The company registered domestic sales of 906 units in 2017, while the numbers stood at only 501 during the previous years. The growth comes despite the overall bus market in India being hit with a noticeable drop.
Daimler Buses India Managing Director Thomas Fricke has been quoted by news sources as saying that the company is leading the shift in the evolving market by coming up with products that met global standards of performance and safety.
