The smallest type of cars named the Quadricycles is not common in India. Bajaj’s Qute small car is a quadricycle, which features a 216cc DTS-i engine that produces 13 BHP of power. The four-seater car is given a 5-speed transmission and runs at a maximum speed of 70 KMPH.
There is news that most of the Bajaj dealers in Kerala and North East have already placed orders and taken bookings for the small car. As per the company plans, only a few units of car, up to 35- 40 units will be sent to the dealers.
At the Auto Expo in the year 2012, the company unveiled the upcoming car model. The car was all set to hit the market but it did not have the government permission as the quadricycles were not listed in the Motor Vehicle Act. This stated as the reason why the 2012 car took so long to clear all the PILs. Apart from this individual states also had to give nod for the car to hit the road. The initial launch of the car is set in Kerala and North East states as they have already agreed to this.
The car can be used for commercial purposes but not as a private vehicle. This means that the car can be used as cabs and transport vehicles. Another feature of the car is that it can be converted into an electric car easily. The CNG varieties of this car were tested recently. Due to lack of safety rules most of the automobile brands accepted the proposal for this car earlier.
The price of the car would range between Rs 1.4 lakh to Rs 1.6 lakh. There are reports that the CNG variants of the car will carry with a higher price tag. Another rumor about the Qute was that it was priced Rs 60,000. There are reports which deny these rumors. With the basic features the car will have optional accessories including MP3 player.
