Jan 16: The fourteenth edition of the Auto Expo is expected to lift the wraps off as many as 24 passenger vehicles and two wheelers. The joint inauguration of the Auto Expo 2018, which comprises The Motor Show and Components Expo, will be held on February 8th, at the India Expo Mart, in Greater Noida.
Going by reports quoting the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), an additional 100 vehicles will be introduced at the event. SIAM will be co- hosting the show with Auto Component Manufacturers Association.
Regulars, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mercedes Benz, Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Cars, SML Isuzu, Renault, Hyundai, Toyota Kirloskar and Hero MotoCorp, are set to showcase an array of their ideas while companies like Harley-Davidson, Fiat Chrysler, Volkswagen, Triumph Motorcycles, Ford, Volvo, Nissan, Daimler, Bajaj Auto, and Royal Enfield are likely to stay off the show.
The auto-gaming arena, virtual reality experience of driving connected and autonomous electric vehicles will be the specialty of this year’s show. Apart from this, the Auto Expo will also exhibit the extravaganza of 70 years of automobile industry in India.
SIAM officials have been quoted by news reports as saying that there is nothing extraordinary about some of the brands staying off the event. They added that only 50 percent of the SIAM members would participate.
Pointing out that the Indian automobile market is facing a huge disruption due to many reasons, they also said that companies are not bringing in any conventional vehicles due to the Electric Vehicle plan and transition from BS-IV to BS-VI in two years.
